Some executive directors prefer a passive board while others find themselves being micro-managed by their board. Research tells us that highly effective executive directors want high performing boards who actively engage in the governance of the organization. They want to work in partnership, where roles are understood and respected and there is a collective sense of mission advancement. Technically, a nonprofit board manages itself. And yet the indisputable reality is that the chief executive does have a role. But what exactly is the role of the executive director in managing the board? Join us for this interactive workshop to learn more about what an executive director can do to help the board manage itself – and invite your Board President to join you!

This session will:

- Explore the five steps every executive director can take to help manage her/his board: Informing, Partnering, Educating, Refraining, and Engaging.
- Ensure you know what you can...and what you shouldn’t…do with your board
- Provide an opportunity to learn from other executives about how they effectively manage their boards
